Sample donation request letter/email

Please feel free to customize this letter with your own thoughts and words about your participation in the event. A similar email is also available in your participant center, which you may send and track from your personal fundraising page.

Dear <___________>,

I'm happy to announce that I'm raising funds to help support the Maryland SPCA in its efforts to serve 15,000 pets each year by participating in the 22nd annual March for the Animals on Saturday, April 15.

The Maryland SPCA, founded in 1869, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of pets and people in our community. The Maryland SPCA is building a more compassionate community through the provision of programs of education, adoption, rehabilitation and spay/neuter.

I am writing to ask for your help by making a donation in support of my participation in this event. Your tax-deductible contribution will help the hundreds of homeless cats and dogs in the care of the Maryland SPCA each day. A gift of any amount will help the Maryland SPCA reach its fundraising goal!

To make a donation, please visit my fundraising page at www.marchfortheanimals.org. Or, if you would prefer, you may turn your tax-deductible contribution in to me or mail it to the address listed below:

The Maryland SPCA
March for the Animals
3300 Falls Road
Baltimore, MD 21211

Please include my name so that your gift can be added to my pledge total. Checks should be made payable to the Maryland SPCA.

Thank you for considering a gift in support of the homeless animals at the Maryland SPCA!

Matching Gifts

Did you know that in a few extra minutes, you may be able to double your generous donation? Many companies and organizations offer a matching-gift program that is designed to support employees who give to non profit organizations. With a few easy steps and proper documentation, your company may double or even triple the donation you have made. This makes your donation even more valuable in helping to care for homeless pets.

The following are just a few of the companies that offer matching-gift programs:

T. Rowe Price, General Electric, Cigna, Grainger, Verizon, Stanley Black & Decker, Bank of America, Exelon and many more!

Check your company’s website or ask your human resources manager whether a matching-gift program is in place or could be established.

Here are examples of how your company can match your donation:

  1. Personal Donation: For every dollar you give personally, your employer matches either part or the entire amount.
  2. Matching Fundraising Dollars: For every dollar that is pledged to you as a participant in the March for the Animals, the employer of the person pledging matches the amount. Both the original pledge and the matching gift made by the employer are credited toward your fundraising goal. All donations given in support of the March for the Animals will be credited toward the total fundraising goal of the registered participant soliciting the gifts. The matching-gift process may take several weeks or months, depending on the payment cycle of the company involved. The first step in most cases is that a request form is completed by the donor and submitted to the Maryland SPCA. We send that paperwork to the company for approval. Although the process may take some time, the impact that matching gifts have toward your fundraising goal and toward our ability to care for homeless pets at the Maryland SPCA is well worth the time.
