Welcome to My March for the Animals Page!
As a mom to rescued animals and a volunteer at the Maryland SPCA, giving back to homeless cats and dogs is near to my heart. It's the kind and generous people in the community, like yourself, that give the animals at the Maryland SPCA a chance at a loving and happy home.
Here are the stories of my rescued family:
Oscar and Beans are two happy and healthy, 11 year tuxedo cats. As kittens, they were abandoned by their stray mother. Luckily, she chose to have her kittens in a cellar of a close friend of mine. When they were found, I jumped on the chance to give 3 of the 5 kittens a safe place until they found their furever family. One was rehomed instantly, but Oscar and Beans found their way into my heart and I couldn't let them go.
Olive, my black and white Staffordshire Terrier, was at a kill shelter where she unfortunately was on the euthanasia list and urgent. She was a puppy and had been mouthy with the leash and accidently nipped at a volunteer. Her foster mom pulled her with no doubt in her mind and she is one of the nicest dogs - loves other dogs, cats and all people. My mom always says that Olive was the pup that converted her to a pitbull lover and she became a Dembeck the fall of 2011.
Sweet Sophie, my all white pit mix, was brought to a veterinary office as a found pet with an injury to her leg after being found on the side of a major road in NJ. The staff contacted her future foster mom for help and she took her right in. She is super sweet and extremely smart. Sophie is great with kids all of ages, dogs and cats! Being deaf does not slow her down a bit. Sophie and Olive were instant best friends. She joined the family the fall of 2012. Both babies were fostered and saved by Azita Kay the founder and president of the Paw It 4ward foundation.
In June of 2015, a small stray terrier was found in my neighborhood. Like my husband and I had done in the past, we scooped her up in an effort to find her owners. We placed found dog reports at every shelter in Baltimore City and surrounding counties, placed notices all over facebook, flyers, etc. No owners came forward after weeks of trying. I think this precious pup knew she already found her home and that's how we add Annie to our pack.
Help give other animals a chance at finding their families just like Oscar, Beans, Olive, Sophie, and Annie did!
